• The 32 mode control heads can be converted to 64/128/210 modes as described on the Syntor X 9000 conversions page. There is no difference between the 64, 128 and 210 mode control heads except that special RSS is required to program more than 64 modes.
• I do not know what radio line the HCN1041 control heads are from (i.e. I have never seen them listed in any service manual radio model chart). They do seem to work just fine in the X 9000 radios. All of the HCN1041 control heads I have encountered do not come with the numeric keypad (0 through 9 keys). These keys can be added by changing the escutcheon and placing 9 new keys in the holes.
• There has been a tendency to call all of the above control heads "A9" control heads which is not correct.

• More good news, the Syntor X 9000, Trunking Syntor X 9000 and Syntor X 9000E radio cables are all interchangeable on the Syntor X 9000 radios.
• The HKN4256A has a special radio connector housing with a built in keyloader port. This particular keyloader port is only useful when the radio has an Internal Securenet Option Board installed inside it.
• Be careful, I found out the hard way a MaraTrac siren cable HKN4337A looks exactly like a Syntor X 9000 radio cable on the outside. Of course it is not, and it is not usable as a Syntor X 9000 radio cable.
• If your main radio cable part number starts with YKN or ends with SPxx (where xx is 2 number digits) you have a special purpose cable. Be careful, the positive ground cables usually have a SPxx suffix. If you are not sure you can use an ohm meter to map out the cable wires and check your results against the wiring on the cables page.

• * Note: The trunked and conventional siren T-cables are not interchangeable. Keep in mind the trunking Syntor X 9000 radio was a factory upgrade of a Syntor X Dual Operation Trunking radio. Do not try and use the above Trunked Siren/PA or its T-Cable on a Syntor X 9000E trunking radio (i.e. a trunking Syntor X 9000 is very different from a trunking Syntor X 9000E).
• See the model chart for Systems 9000 Vehicle Repeater System (VRS) model numbers. The VRS is housed in either a Siren/PA housing or an External Options Housing depending on the VRS model number. When the VRS is added to either the Siren/PA or External Options Housing, it crowds out and prevents the use of any Internal Option Boards inside the VRS housing
• Both the Siren/PA and External Options Housing can accept two Internal Option Boards unless a VRS is located inside the housing.
• See the VRS programming notes for additional VRS requirements, cabling and programming.
• If your radio has the early version HLN4925 Personality Board, the HKN4304A and HKN4295A cables require a jumper from pin A to pin 12 inside the radio. The HKN4304A cable is also used with the Dual Radio (W269AZSP).
• The HLN1185 Siren/PA has 3 different speaker output pins (65 / 130 watts, 75 watts, and 100 watts). The 65 / 130 watt pin power level is selected by resistor R83. R83 (3.48 K, 1%) is removed when using the 130 watt speaker option. R83 is installed when using the 65 watt, 75 watt or 100 watt option pins. Factory standard wiring is the 100 watt pin with R83 installed. If you get a used Siren/PA remember to check the speaker output pin wiring and R83. Also a high-line supply condition (16.6 V) can cause up to a 30% power increase to the speaker (the speaker must be rated for the increased power if you have a hi-line condition). Please check the Motorola Siren/PA manual (68P80101W10) for the all the details.
• The HLN1196 Auxiliary Switch Panel has no Systems 9000 serial data connection, it is just styled to match the Systems 9000 control heads and accessories. It is just 8 switches with labels that can be used to directly control other equipment or relay interfaces to other equipment (i.e. emergency light bars, gun locks, etc.).

• The control head has special firmware to wait for power up status from 2 radios rather then just one radio. It is also a W930 option 8k EEPROM control head.
• The microphone has increased sensitivity to compensate for the loading effects of two radios and the optional Siren/PA. It is a HMN1061A microphone with these changes:
  • C1305 was .047 uf (08-11051A11) and is now .068 uf (08-11051A12).
  • C1308 was .15 uf (08-11051A14) and now is .22 uf (08-11051A15).
  • R1306 was 56 ohms (06-11009C19) and is now 33 ohms (06-11009C13).
• It looks like the YKN4214A cable can be made from a regular radio cable that has been cut. See the YKN4214A notes for details.
• Special Systems 9000 dual radio RSS is required for the radios and control head.

• These option boards plug into the Personality Board under the Internal Option Boards Shield (the 20 pin socket J301 is where these boards plug in with a ribbon cable), but only up to 2 boards will fit. The Siren/PA and external Systems 9000 Option Expansion Housing can also hold these boards.
• The DTMF board does both encode and decode standard 12 button touch tone.
• The MDC-1200 and MDC-600 boards are decoders and encoders for a Motorola digital signaling system.
• The Singletone encoder sends programmable audible tone bursts in the 900 to 3000 Hz frequency range (in 25 Hz increments) when the PTT is pressed.
• The Securenet boards are for encoding and decoding encrypted voice. There is basic, full featured and advanced Securenet internal configurations. The full featured and advanced Securenet internal configurations require special U501 firmware.
• A known working example of the internal HLN5003 FF Securenet board had firmware revision 0180752T75 on the radio drawer U501 chip.
• An unknown configuration internal HLN5451B Advanced Securenet board had firmware revision 0180749T14 on the radio drawer U501 chip.
• DTMF board firmware part numbers 01-06707T96 and 01-80748T73 are version 2.0 or higher. If your firmware chip has a different part number or you want to know the difference between these firmware parrt numbers, then check out the DTMF programming notes. If anyone has other DTMF firmware part numbers please contact me. (I would really like to identify firmware versions lower then 2.0)?
• I have no idea what the difference is between the YLN4077A and YLN4470A.
• This is only a partial list and no attempt has been made to track all of the A, B, C, etc. revisions of these boards.
• See the radio parts page for option board 20 pin ribbon cable part numbers. These ribbon cables connect the one or two option boards to the Radio Personality Board, Siren/PA board or Option Expansion Housing board.
• Most of these boards have 3 jumper pads for zero ohm chip resistor jumpers located on the bottom solder side of the option board. They are usually labeled JU1, JU2, JU3 or alternately JU101, JU102, JU103. If you only have one radio attached to a control head (i.e. a single radio system) then none of these jumpers should be installed. These jumpers are only installed when the boards are used in dual radio drawers. If these jumpers are not correct, you will get a failure error code from the option when you power the radio up.

My Syntor X HMN1015A Palm Microphones are the same as the HMN1061A Palm Microphone with the following two differences. The HMN1061A has the Syntor X 9000 cord and there is a wire attached from the printed circuit board to the weight in the back microphone housing. The wire is the Syntor X 9000 hang-up connection and is grounded when the microphone is on the hang-up clip. If you are looking for microphone parts or have a spare Syntor X 9000 microphone cord, do not overlook the HMN1015A microphone for Syntor X 9000 use.

• This is a list of options from my manuals. The manual numbers identify where to find service information on the option (sometimes operating instructions are also provided in the service manual).
• Keep in mind the Trunking Syntor X 9000 radio is a factory upgrade of a Syntor X Dual Operation Trunking radio, and should not be confused with a Trunking Syntor X 9000E radio. Option W709 is an example of both trunking X 9000 and X 9000E codes (the two letter suffix will be different - sorry I do not have the suffix letters). The options known to be unique to the Trunking Syntor X 9000 have been marked in red or with manual 68P80100W89-A.
• Different revisions of the same manual sometimes use different option identifiers (i.e. see W391).
• When it is documented, the two letter code at the end of the option code is given and when it is not, blank underlines are shown. Sometimes the blank underlines after the option code are left out because the option's manual did not have the two letter codes in it (i.e. W941). As I collect more manuals, I hope to be able to fill in more of the two letter codes and maybe even find more option codes.
• The option codes listed inside the radio represent how the radio was shipped from the Motorola factory. It is very common to find these radios on the used market without the options listed (i.e. someone removed the option boards, cables, control head, etc. before it was resold). So finding the option code is no guarantee the radio still has the option installed. Other radios have been upgraded in the field and may have options that are not listed inside the radio. When checking the option codes, make sure the radio serial number on the factory programming sheet inside the radio matches the serial number on the outside of the radio (the radio lids get mixed up sometimes).
• Some options only have to do with the RSS programming and nothing else. Option W11 is an example, as all the conventional Syntor X 9000 radios have a programmable time-out timer that can be turned off or set from .08 minutes to 10.58 minutes. So, if the factory preprogrammed all the modes to a 1 minute time-out, you will probably find option W11 listed. Of course, the radio can simply be programmed with different time-out settings. The obvious options that are mainly RSS have been marked, however, some of these options may require an additional key for the control head (i.e. a "MPL" key for W290, a "DIR" key for W425, a "TbScn" key for W703, etc.). Some options may depend on the correct optional hardware being installed (i.e. W303 is not available with all the Securenet hardware configurations).
