Introduction:

Motorola manuals have a revision letter at the end of the manual part number (i.e. 68P80101W95-O is an "O" revision and 68P80101W95-D is a "D" revision). These revision letters separate the older manuals from newer ones. The -O revision is for the original manual in that part number series. Keep in mind, that Motorola will sometimes supersede a series of manuals for a particular radio with a new manual that has a new part number. When they do this, the first manual with the new part number will be a -O revision, but it will be newer than any of the manuals with the old part number, regardless of the old manual revisions. For this reason, not all manuals with an "O" revision can be considered "OLD" manuals.

Motorola has been know to drop valuable information from manuals as they release newer revisions. When different internal circuits of a radio are redesigned and given new assembly numbers, the information (schematics, parts lists, etc.) for the old assembly number can be completely dropped in a newer revision manual. If you work on these radios, sometimes you may need a specific older or newer version of a manual. When I have the information I will attempt to point out important differences in different manual revisions.

• The 68P80100W94 manual is a supplement to the Syntor X VHF 68P81060E05 and Syntor X UHF 68P80100W45 manuals. By removing specified sections of the Syntor X manuals and combining them with the Syntor X 9000 68P80100W94 supplement manual, it makes a complete early version of the Syntor X 9000 VHF and UHF manual. This supplement documents the early Syntor X 9000 HLN4925A Personality Board. This manual is limited to VHF range 2, UHF range 1 and 2. The pink WMR-0224 manual revisions expand its coverage to all conventional VHF, UHF and 800 MHz ranges (early T43, T73, T34, T64, T74 and T45).
• The Low Band manual is the best source for information on the receiver Extender. GE uses the term Extender for their vehicle repeater system, so do not confuse it with Motorola's Extender.

• The Syntor X 9000E "Dual Operation" refers to a Trunking/Conventional operation radio. Do not confuse this manual with the single control head "Dual Radio" manuals below.
• Actually the UHF X 9000 conventional service manual is a better choice than the UHF X 9000E manual because the X 9000 manual covers more frequency and power ranges than the X 9000E manual. The UHF X 9000E manual is only needed if you intend to use it as a dual operation radio with the trunking controller board installed.

• The HHCH Dual Radio System manual documents a hardware setup to control 2 radios with a single Hand Held Control Head. It requires special hardware, cables and firmware that can be very hard to find. Special Radio Service Software (RSS) is also required.
• The Systems 9000 Dual Radio System manual documents a hardware setup to control 2 radios with a single Systems 9000 Control Head (i.e. HCN1063). It requires special cables and firmware that can be very hard to find. Special Radio Service Software (RSS) is also required.
• *Note: the VRS models ending with ASP01 or ASP02 require the 68P80101W97 Option Expansion Housing manual and models ending with WSP01 or WSP02 require the 68P80101W10 Siren/PA manual. The transceiver for models ending in AASP01, AASP02, AWSP01 or AWSP02 require the Expo manuals 68P81039C45 Theory & Maintenance, 68P81025C30 VHF or 68P81039C55 UHF service manuals. The transceiver for models ending in BASP01, BASP02, BWSP01 or BWSP02 require the 68P80901Z35 RNET Telemetry service manual (it covers VHF and UHF). This means a minimum of 3 manuals is required to document a BASP01, BASP02, BWSP01 or BWSP02 model VRS (to completely cover any VRS, you need 7 manuals total).
• The 68P81114E07-O Touch Tone manual only covers the HMN1010A (trunking Mostar) and HMN1014A (trunking Syntor) microphones. It is missing the jumper table that documents how to convert the microphone for use by many other models of radios (the 68P81114E07-B version does have the complete documentation including the jumper table).
• The 68P80101W10-O Siren/PA manual has HLN1185A information and the HKN4246A cable schematic. The Siren/PA 68P80101W10-B manual and later revisions have HLN1185B information and the HKN4304A cable schematic.
• There are other manuals that I do not have part numbers for.
• The antenna manuals above come in handy with the low band radios because of their very wide bandwidth.

• The first two Conventional RSS manuals do not appear in the retail price database. The part numbers have not been verified yet.
• The 68P07992D52 Conventional Radio Programmer manual is not very useful, but it does have RSS installation instructions and a nice appendix of programming worksheets. Its weakness is it does not explain what any of the selections actually mean. For example, the Securenet editing screen instructions tell you how to move the cursor and make selections, but there is not one word about what the selections are or what they do.
• The SIU Programmer manual is for the dual radio Software Interface Unit (SIU) and its special RSS. This manual has the same strengths and weaknesses as the 68P07992D52 Conventional Radio Programmer manual above.

• This control head service information table is a list of radio service manuals with their revision information and the Systems 9000 control heads they contain information about. This is just a list from my manual collection so it is not nearly a complete list. It may be able to help you locate service information on a specific control head.
• The 68P80102W55-A manual leads me to believe the HCN1036A control head uses the same boards as the HCN1045A with special Advanced Securenet firmware, however, this is still conjecture at this time.
• By far, the least expensive at new retail prices are the 68P80102W79-A SPECTRA 9000 Supplement manual, 68P81077C30-O Spectra Manual Revision Supplement to 68P80102W61-O (goes with following supplement manual) and 68P81077C25-O Spectra Manual Revision Supplement to 68P80102W61-O (schematic, parts list and board layout only - use with perviously listed manual). All of these manuals except for the second manual (68P81077C30-O) cover more than just the control heads (the extra materials may or may not be of any use to you).

Motorola manual errata:

The Syntor X 9000 UHF 68P80102W04-A manual, Common Circuits Board section left out: R914 is 39 ohms, R919 is 390 ohms, C903 and C904 is 33 uf on 78/100 watt radios. R914 is 82 ohms, R919 is 270 ohms, C903 and C904 is 15 uf on 30 watt radios. Ignore the part number annotations at the very top of the Common Circuits Board UHF parts list in the Syntor X 9000 manual. Use the manual's model chart or this list to decipher which boards go in which radio. The Syntor X 9000 UHF parts list also mislabeled jumpers JU900 and JU901 as JU950 and JU951 respectively (the schematic and PC layout are correct).

The Syntor X 9000 UHF 68P80102W04-O manual, model chart shows control head HCN1033D with HLN5104D boards. The control head listed should be a HCN1045A. The above information on R914, R919, C903 and C904 was left out. Also, R914 is 120 ohms, C903 and C 904 is 10 uf on the 100 watt range 2 Syntor X 9000E UHF radio. Jumpers JU900 and JU901 are also mislabeled as explained above.

I have not attempted to cover all the errors in the manuals, only the important ones I am aware of.
